Sweden’s first connected network of hydrogen refuelling stations was launched on May 19 with the opening of Hydri’s tenth station in Nyköpingsbro. Developed by Qarlbo Energy’s subsidiary Hydri, the network links Skåne, Sweden’s west coast, and the Stockholm region along the country’s busiest transport routes, enabling hydrogen-powered trucks to operate commercially on key freight corridors.
“This network is an important milestone, but it is only the beginning. We now need to scale up rapidly and strengthen collaboration between industry, freight buyers, and policymakers to expand the entire hydrogen value chain. If we succeed, hydrogen can become a natural part of a fossil-free transport system within just a few years,” said Michel Thomas, Chair of Hydri and CEO of Qarlbo Energy.
The event featured live hydrogen refueling demonstrations with trucks from both Volvo and Scania, as well as a panel discussion and ribbon-cutting ceremony with Per-Arne Blomquist (CEO, Qarlbo), Kamilla Björkman (CEO, Hydri), Johan Engebratt (Head of Powertrain Strategic Development, Volvo Group Trucks Technology), Tony Sandberg (VP, Scania Pilot Partner), Frida Jahnke (Fuel Manager, Maserfrakt), Stefan Nyström (Head of the Climate and Air Department, Swedish Environmental Protection Agency), Rickard Nordin (Spokesperson for Energy Policy, Centre Party), and Urban Granström (Chair of the Municipal Executive Board, Nyköping Municipality).
